Building and DIY

With over 1/4 of a century of trade qualified experience I hope to share a little of what I know. If you are doing a home reno perhaps I may have the tips and tricks just for you. Also I can likely point you to other resources for information, tools and materials. My belief is there are many things you can do yourself. Not only can you do them yourself but with a little guidance you can do do them well!

Tool Reviews

I Love Tools !!!

You only have to take a look in one of my sheds to see I have a passion for tools. Since I was knee high to a grasshopper have I liked tools. At last count I had 17 lathes. To me tools are not just about earning money, a means to an end or something you just have to have. They are a thing of beauty.

Some might say I am a bonafide tool junky. After decades of hands on experience and rubbing shoulders with others I’m sure you will find me qualified to give an honest appraisal for a variety of tools. As well as this I hope to point you in the right direction for the best deals and service. Not only will you find my views but I will share some of the best reviews I’ve found.

Woodworking Projects

Over time you will have the opportunity to join me on a variety of woodworking projects. Some will be for myself and some for clients. Along the way there will be both written and video tutorials. Look out for an invitation to my YouTube chanel in the coming months. If there is a demand all efforts will be made to provide plans for these projects too. Most of my work is done on the fly. Being spontaneous and willing to adapt has led me to find favor with many clients. Often all I start with is a rough sketch that gets modified along the way. It is relatively simple to make retrospective plans on such occasions.

Woodturning

There was a delay in adopting this form of woodworking. While building and woodworking make up some of my earliest memories it was not until I was 13 that this first got my attention. These days it seems few schools teach woodturning but I enjoyed those years. That was in the 80’s. Fast forward to around 2002 and I finally bought my first lathe and chisels. My next serious drive came around 2010 and it was this time my collection of lathes really began.

Woodturning is another passion I hope to share. Even my now 7yr old daughter has had a supervised play on the lathe. With help she made a bowl. Many a first timer has been able to make themselves a writing pen.

Whether it’s a pen, architectural, decorative, ornamental, functional or even toys – in time you will find it here.

Woodwork For Kids

Eventually this may have its own unique blog. In the meantime I will be bringing to you a variety of projects and articles. Some projects here may be of interest to older and or more experienced people. Similar to the above there will be plans, projects and advice.

  • What tools do I need?
  • Tool safety
  • How to use these tools
  • Where and how to get materials

All this and more will be covered.

Join me and my children on an exciting journey as they work on their own projects and are joined by other children
